Hi,

I am trying to run Xubuntu 8.10 from live CD on a 400 MHz computer.
It hangs after "Checking Battery state"

I saw some comment in another thread to do Ctrl-Alt-F1 and type

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE

The result I get from this is:

(EE) VESA(0): No matching modes
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

I don't know how to interpret this. I am a newbie to Linux so I would need detailed help and suggestions.

Very thankful for help!

Bump... because I'm getting this very same problem with Xubuntu 10.10.

Trying to boot to liveCD, it'll get to "Checking battery state" and just stop, DEAD.

Sony Vaio PCG-R505EL mini laptop, P3, 768M RAM, 40G HD, Intel integrated graphics, running Satanic Ubuntu 8.x on the HD. I'm going to Xubuntu because the SL is quite sluggish, too much eyecandy going on I guess, the machine needs a slimmer distro.
