Hi

I have finally decide to bite the bullet and give Linux a go. Having done some research Ubuntu seems the way to go.

I have a pc with windows XP and wanted to set it up as a dual boot system. The hard drive is partitioned into C and D drive with XP on the C drive and data on the D drive. I wanted to install Ubuntu on some spare space on the D drive but if i try to install on the D drive it fails. It seems to be insisting on installation on the c drive.

In addition I have a spare 80Gb sata drive that I want to add to the pc which would obviously become a new drive and this will now be my prefered location for installing Ubuntu.

Is there a way to install it on either the d drive or the new disk or do I have to install it on the c drive?

Ubuntu can be installed on either a primary or logical partition.
So your d:\ should be possible if you want.
Also you can use another hdd if you have one.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The problem I am having is that when I install it gives default installation location for creating ubuntu folders on the c drive. If I change the c to d drive it says installation failled.
