I could not get an 8.04 desktop disk to install without hanging so I used server and then installed X and gnome over it.

Is there an easy way to go to 8.10 desktop?

If I upgrade to 8.10 server will there be any immediate problems with X or gnome?

Thanks from an old time windows user gradually migrating to Linux and Unix.

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop should do it. As for problems when upgrading, it depends on your hardware. A clean install is always less prone to errors.

i have tried using sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop to no effect. I get:

E: couldn't find package ubuntu-desktop

Doing something wrong? How did you install GNOME or X individually?
