I recently blew the dust out of my computer (air compressor). It seems that my cd writer drive sometimes works, although most of the time it does not recognize disks that are blank or even regular cdroms.
Is there a program or utility that i can use to check it out?

What was the output pressure on the compressor set to? Set it too high, and the flying dust can cause damage by getting lodged where it doesn't belong.

It probably did cause damange (60-100 psi)
How can i check?
But my second cd drive (dvd drive) works fine... heh

If it's not under warrenty, you *could* be VERY careful and dissassemble the drive and clean it. I don't recommend this practice though.

Your best bet may be taking it to a shop and having it looked at.

Another question: have you checked all the connections? Pressure at that power could also cause connections to loosen. Completely disconnect the drive at both the motherboard and the drive itself and see if that fixes it.

any other input?

Thank you for your help
Basically i left the drive open, and blew air into the drive
Dust is actually extremely annoying, it works perfectly fine now!
There actually was some dust from when i cleaned it a week ago
Note to self: Always clean the cd drives last :)
Thanks
