I want to install bit torrent, and I do not know how. Which bit torrent things work the best on Ubuntu and also, how do I install them?

Ubuntu comes with Transmission as standard.

Applications - > Internet -> Transmission

also you can install bit tornado, its in the repositories.
go to system then to administration then to synaptic package manager.
in that search for bit tornado.

It should be as easy as opening up your torrent by double clicking, tracker is very simplistic and straightforward.
it should start to download right way after it allows you to set a directory.

Bit torrent is rather simple to use.

You'll need to find a website where you can download small "bit" files e.g.

thepiratebay.org (They have legal torrents too!)
isohunt.com

You should be given an option to open with Transmission before you start the download.

Is it better?

Personally I find Transmission better but go ahead and give it a go. Play the field and see what works best for you.

Just to let you know bittorrent is in the repositories as well. But I'm another one that prefers Transmission.

Deluge-torrent is also popular.
sudo apt-get install deluge-torrent

How do I use these websites?

Do a search for a file you're after, look for a button/link saying something like 'Download torrent', download, run with your torrent client.

How do I get torrent files onto my iPod?

Why would you put a torrent on your ipod?

See the attachments.

As for your iPod, open the folder to your iPod (should be under 'Places', not sure, I don't own one) and just drag them in.

Good point. Unless he (I assume) likes taking 4KB torrent files with him :p.

Well opinions will vary per application.
Personally I prefer bit tornado over transmission, but thats just me.
But thats the cool thing about free software, it is FREE and you can try out each bit torrent client and see what one suits you.
There are many Bit torrent clients for linux:
Ktorrent
Transmission
bit tornado
bittorrent-gui
deluge
azureus
and many more

Linux is about choice, there is no true "better' just what works for your needs the best.

sudo apt-get install deluge-torrent

The deluge site is way ahead of the repos.
Personally I like deluge the most but it's personal choice

I won't use 1.0+ until they have fixed the scheduler plugin.

Slinkey -- I agree the scheduler plugin needs to be fixed, but seperating the front-end and back ends is a great feature. I run deluged on my server and control it from my main box. It is SUPER nice to not have my browsing crippled. Once I figured that out, I could never go back!!

As for the origional poster, it sounds like you may want to learn a little bit about torrents before you begin. Start here:

KTORRENT!!!

i never thought the client would make much difference to the speed of the download. when i tried ktorrent i realised how wrong i was, ktorrent is consistently faster than anything else i've ever used by a large margin, definitely give it a go.
