Hello

The ongoing problem with Linux - screen and gfx problems :(

However, at boot Ubuntu hangs running "DKMS Auto installation service for kernel 2.6.27-7"

Tried to fix xorg.conf. No change
Tried to delete xorg.conf. No change.
Tried to update (today) and installed lates updates. No change.
Tried to startx in recoverymode. Could start, but no more.

Distro : X64
Gfx : Nvidia 8600GT
Driver : GLX
Compiz : enabled.

Any idea to REM out this DKMS thing and where to do it ?

Intrepid need DKMS to compile the nvidia drivers, if you disable it, you are essentially diabling you installation. You should be able to find what exactly the error is by checking the logs in /var/log/installer.

Well,

/var/log the DKMS_Autoinstaller (log) said :

Allready installed (177.80) on this kernel

The problem appeared after an update, and as I remember, it did contain a NVidia driver update ?
