hay, does anyone know if there are any programs I can run to test my set up.

I have heard that Prime95 torture works with windows, but is there anything like this for Ubuntu?

Thanx benc123

You could install boinc-client and boinc-manager to run distributed computing at full processor.
You could run glxgears to max out graphics.
When you boot up, you may have to press Esc to get to the Grub boot menu, and you can boot into MemTest86, which will max out memory (and maybe processor, too).

Windows is pretty bad torture, Linux has no where near the hardware / Ram requirements of Vista.

What are you wanting to test / see exactly ?

Thanks for your replies, sorry i took so long to get back to you. I was hoping to test graphics and my Quad core processor.

Prime95 has a Linux derivative its just not supplied with a GUI but it is what I use for torture testing.

Scroll down and there is both a 32 and 64 bit version. You can make it run on all 4 cores at once to get the stress test you are after.
