Hi all,

the first thing i was instructed to do by this site was go and post a hello :)

So hello, im originally from the UK now living over in Southern California and working as a Technical Specialist in Downtown LA, Been meaning to start using Linux for a long long while and now this week i took the Plunge with Ubuntu and i am absolutely loving it.. XP is so damn stale now its nice to have something refreshing to get stuck into.. Oh and i also do 3d art and animation in my spare time so am looking to Linux to see what it has to offer on that front...

I love this Linux thing!!!

If you haven't done so already, definitely take a look at Blender (http://www.blender.org/), a free 3D modelling and animation tool. The user interface needs a little (or a lot) getting used to, but once you get familiar with it, it makes a lot of sense.

Greetings from another ex-pat. I'm originally from Burnley, Lancashire.

Lots of things which run with both windows and linux 'aint as easy as the Windows version'... :-(

I suspect this is because they concentrate the development on the more popular platform (understandable) and then make the linux version just to stop us moaning about the lack thereof...

On the other hand, less can mean more. Compare an automatic car with a manual. Sure, the auto is easier but a real driver will get more out of the manual version.
