LyX has release the stable version 1.6.0. However in Ubuntu the version is 1.5.5.
How can I upgrade to the latest version 1.6.0

Thank you

You could install the deb package from here (http://www.getdeb.net/app/LyX)
Once you have downloaded it double click on the deb package to install it.

Except that they only have 1.6.0 for Intrepid. The hardy version is only RC3.

What does RC3 mean and is it a bad thing?

RC means release candidate

Release Candidate
A pre-release version, which contains the desired functionality of the final version, but which needs to be tested for bugs (which ideally should be removed before the final version is released).
release (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/release) candidate (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/candidate) (plural release candidates (http://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=release_candidates&action=edit&redlink=1))

(software development) A version of a program that is nearly ready for release but may still have a few bugs (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bugs); the status between beta version (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/beta_version) and release version (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/release_version).

Its not a bad thing.

Is there any way to upgrade Lyx 1.6.0 rc3 in Ubuntu Hardy to 1.6.0 version? I had installed the rc version from getdeb but 1.6.0 version is provided only for intrepid, not hardy. Is there any way to do this?
