Pardon a total newbie (first post) but what is the name of that Vista-like theme the OP linked to?

Is it hard to install?

Even better - is there a guide for Ubuntu for total beginners? I've installed 8.10 and it works really well (even from Persistent USB install) but I could do with a basics guide.

Looks like KDE 4.x to me. You'd install it from Gnome by running "sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop" in a terminal.

For a guide to Ubuntu, read https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/index.html

you can get something similar by installing avant window manager through Synaptic package manager and then running the Applet "Awn main menu". You right click the task bar and goto dock preferences to get to it. This gives you a panel of applications which then expand to programs etc.
I have become quite fond of it.
