I started a series of articles back in November, however, first, my KDE 4.0 installation died, then, my laptop died, now that I have a new computer I decided to continue with the work, of course, Dolphin, Okular and Gwenview articles are a little old, however, there are just some features missing, the basis are the same.

Wow! That Plasma in KDE 4.2 looks gorgeous! I just hope that Arch updates KDE as fast as they did before...

This blows Vista out of the water! I love that you can use Google Gadgets as well as Plasmoids. And adding transparency to everything really does make all the difference. I just hope that they fix the problem with KDE's desktop effects not working with Intel graphics...otherwise I won't see the full beauty of KDE 4.2...

With Powerdevil replacing KPowersave and Amarok 2 being released very soon, I can tell that this will be an amazing release :D Can't wait 'till January!

A friend of mine used KDE4 on Interpid, but it was too heavy on his laptop (IBM T42) - it was eating way too much of his CPU. He ended up downgrading to KDE3.

KDE4 looks really promising. The only thing that keeps me away from it is the stability. Also I'm a bit skeptical about using vector graphics when designing a theme. I'm a desktop designer and I've alwaysed liked working with raster graphics because it's fun. I can't say the same thing about vector graphics. Inkscape is an incredibly boring program to work with for some reason. :P

Also, you could mention that you can minimize the Sidebar on Okular if you click on the active tab. Took me ages to find out, and I was quite annoyed till I found it because it took away a lot of screen space.

KDE 4.2 Alpha 1 is out, with Beta coming soon. Here is a release schedule. (http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/4.2_Release_Schedule)

There is a KDE-nightly (http://roderick-greening.blogspot.com/) repo for KDE 4.2 but I don't know if it has .debs for Hardy.

KDE 4.1 is pretty amazing I agree. Glad I'm using it at the moment, this whole plasmoid business has really changed my computer and keeps my desktop clean and neat! Good articles, muy bien!

Aww, that's a shame. KDE 4.2 from that repo doesn't work at all.

Hopefully I'll have KDE4Daily up and running by the end of the weekend. No promises, though - last time I ran into some severe issues with Plasma and X (in a VM) that I only fixed by a sheer fluke.

The whole thing has been developed inside a chroot this time around, so I might look into providing a ready-made chroot-able environment so that people can run it natively, or easily svn-up and compile it themselves.

There isn't (as far as I know, but I was partially unplugged for 1 year) any problem with Intel graphic cards, in fact, I use one. There's a problem with NVidia, but it's their bug, not KDEs/Qt.

And, yes, KDE 4.2 will be awesome.

Plasma themes are pretty much just plain images, or gradients, with the clearly exception of some plasmoids, like the analog clock.

I will update Dolphin and Okular articles soon, so they can match their current features, I will add what you mention then :)

If you really want to use/test KDE 4.1.72 I highly recommend using OpenSUSE, since you avoid compiling from source, and the packages from BuildService constantly update. OpenSUSE 11.1 will be great too, and I'm very curious to see the new SLED 11.

PS: I updated the Dolphin article :-)
