View Full Version : [kubuntu] New K-Menu Search Feature? K-Menu Manager/Editor?

Any savvy user of Windows Vista should know about the Start Search feature. When I made the jump to Kubuntu 8.10 I saw that by default the K-menu has a search field that takes focus by default, and that this search field works almost exactly like Vista's Start Search. This made me very happy.

However, for other reasons I decided to go back to KDE 3.5 for the time being. This loss of functionality is one of the last things I'm still having a hard time getting going. I have got Katapult working, but either I don't understand how to use it or its not working well on my system because the results returned are quite incomplete.
so, with the backstory out of the way:
-What was the component that did this in KDE 4 called?
-Is there anything equivalent that I can use in KDE 3.5?
-If I can't get this working, are there any tools / tricks to getting my K-Menu under control?
I'm currently running Ubuntu 8.10 with KDE 3.5 on it, so my K-menu is really really over-grown with items from KDE 3 plus Gnome, plus my added stuff.

The new menu is called kickoff. It was available for KDE 3.5 for a while before KDE 4 came out, but that version is much less polished. It originally came from OpenSUSE and I'm not sure if there are Ubuntu packages for it.

Thanks a lot. Having an actual name to search for made it a LOT easier to find the nice menu thing.

For those who were looking for it, the page talking about Kickoff is over here:
http://en.opensuse.org/Kickoff/
and the SVN address is http://websvn.kde.org/branches/work/suse_kickoff_qstyle
I plan on trying to compile from source tonight when I get off work, will post results later! :)
