Having recently received my Ubuntu system on disc, I am having problems installing it onto my system. I keep getting error messages, such as "Failed to instal the base system" "the base system installation into/target/failed", and other messages of a similar nature. Can anyone assist please?

Firstly, this thread doesn't have the most appropriate of titles and it might be in the wrong section too.

Secondly, did you receive more than one CD? If that is the case, try another one.

have you a sata or usb drive these need care to install search the forums and you will find howto's

I only recieved one disc and am trying to install to an ide drive. I suspect that the data on the disc may not be complete, but have no way to check. Any suggestions please?

the md5 is a check sum to check disk check here (http://ubuntuguide.org/#checkmd5)

If you have a windows machine you will have to google md5 checksum as I don't know how on windows
