well, your best bet is one of these:

Scribus

GIMP

OpenOffice

Probably a foolish question, but you are aware of the "banner" utility in Ubuntu for a bare bones way to do it? It would probably be about 3 pages too.

In a terminal, you just type banner followed by a string and it will output it to the terminal. You can re-direct the output to either a file or printer. Not fancy, but it works.

I just found out about rasterbator:
http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/
which will convert any image into a multi page raster image.

So you could use that, with a happy birthday image you find on the web or make yourself.

I know this is an old post but I searched on how to get rasterbator to work for too long. (and the website didn't have the options I needed. Anyway, I found PosteRazor. It works great.
