I looked up last night and saw that my computer was rebooting. When the desktop came up my panels were gone and I don't know how to get them back. In the meantime I can do a few things by going into usr/bin and clicking on programs, but if this keeps up I'm going to have to reinstall Hardy Heron from my disk. I'm running Intrepid Ibex right now and wonder if the trouble is with it.

Try hitting alt+F2 (bringing up the run app box) and type in
gnome-panel then click "Run"

Thank you! That worked. Turned out I had somehow uninstalled the gnome-panel and trying to run it revealed that fact and told me how to re-install it.:)
