After I updated to ubuntu 8.10 via the update button, I encounter several annoying problems:

1. gnome boots kind of slow. at first, I can only see the wallpaper. After 5 secs, the panels appear, but most of the buttons are missing and after another 10 secs, the network-manager icon appears. Is there any way to speed it up?

2. Problem: When I open firefox, the panels of gnome disapear. When I switch to Fullscreen mode and back, the window switches back to its "normal size", but when I maximise again, the upper bar of the window (the one with the closing/minimise buttons) diasapears under the standard ubuntu panel.

3. Problem: In Open Office, the text in buttons of the dialogue boxes disappears, as well as in the menus.

I have installed/uninstalled firefox/oo completely, but it didn't chage anything. Any ideas?
