using powertop, i've noticed that kde4 uses significantly more cpu than kde 3.5 or gnome. idling, i get a c0 state of ~8%; top shows cpu usage of ~12%, split between xorg and plasma. this is with compositing turned off--the situation is (understandably) worse with kwin running. gnome, in contrast, has c0 of <1%, and cpu usage of maybe 1%. is this a bug, or is kde4 just more power hungry? doesn't seem like it should be so much worse than 3.5 if fancy graphics aren't running...
