How do you think things would change if Shuttleworth bought Yahoo vs. if Microsoft buys it?

Yahoo turned down Microsofts offer of US$47.5bn because it was too low. Somehow I don't think Mark Shuttleworth's penny jar is quite that big.

He'd be in debt and we'd all be screwed.

Anyway, Ubuntu is already pretty cozy with Google.

Yeah, but the difference is their backup plan did not work, and Microsoft isn't biting.

Yahoo is probably going to drop and drop and drop in value now and once somebody starts sniffing around the office for a possible deal/buyout then Microsoft will swoop in and be able to out-muscle anybody thinking of buying Yahoo.

In the end, Microsoft gets the deal for a fraction of what they offered.

It was a gamble for Yahoo, and like any gambling, sometimes you win and sometimes you don't.

Meh. I don't really use Yahoo, so I guess I would just do what I am now. Use it as a spam box.

Yahoo doesn't need to sell itself - just get of it's own bottom and put some proper management in place:
