I'm using VNC, to contact several computer outside our company. I'm working with Ubuntu, they are working with windows-XP. I want to move those computers to Ubuntu as well.
When I need to do something on their pc (say, in case of problems) I start the VNC-client on my computer in the listen-mode.
They start the VNC-server in the user-mode. When they have done that, the VNC-server icon comes up, left of the clock, in the taskbar. When clicking left on the icon, a menu pops up and they choose add client. They enter the IP- of my internet connection and a connection is made.
The beauty of this system is that I don't have to remember any passwords and they don't have to open/forward any ports on their modem.
I wonder if this method also works when both computers work with Ubuntu. Any suggestion/alternative is welcome. As long the outsiders don't have to open/forward ports on their modem.
Thanks! :)
