I have resumed using a PC running Ubuntu 6.10. I can no longer use Synaptic because the repositories cannot be found (error message 404 Not Found). I suspect I was supposed to upgrade before now. There are a few questions:

1. Are the 6.10 repositories gone or are they relocated?
2. To upgrade to a LTS version, do I need to go 6.10 to 7.04 to 7.10 to 8.04?
3. If the answer to 2. is 'Yes', is there some way to get the intermediate CDs? I have dial up internet access, so any significant size download is a problem.

Would be quicker if you burnt an 8.04 ISO and fresh install it than upgrading to each version, remember to move your /home to seperate partition to save personal data/settings

Thank you for the suggestion to go to a burnt 8.04 ISO.

Is it possible to get an 8.04 CD without downloading? With my dial up connection that may take a long time.

When initially going to 6.10 I had endless problems getting modems and printers to work. Will I have to go through this process all over again. Admittedly it should be a faster learning curve but it is something to avoid if at all possible.
