Acouple of weeks ago I was wandering around the forums and in one thread I came across a list of manufacturers/vendors who sell machines with Ubuntu preloaded. I am pretty sure it was a sticky at the top of this forum, but I have been known to be wrong before..... Any help in locating this list would be greatly appreciated.

You can buy a Thinkpad from Lenovo and install Ubuntu yourself. I have a T61 loaded with 8.04.

there is also a version of Ubuntu available for the EEE PC.

I have also had Ubuntu running on Dell C400's, C600's,. I currently have it running on 2 HP 8200's a Toshiba Tecra 8200, And an Everex stepnote LM7wz(this one was however a PITA).

Thanks for the companies you have listed. I was hoping to see the list as it had at least one vendor in Canada, where I am. If I don't find it I will just determin what I need in a computer and have my son help me install Ubuntu.

Dell.ca does offer the inspiron mini 9 with ubuntu here: http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-inspiron-9?c=ca&cs=cadhs1&l=en&s=dhs

Tigerdirect.ca has sylvania g meso netbooks with ubuntu remix here: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/search.asp?keywords=ubuntu&image12.x=0&image12.y=0

These are both netbooks however, I'm not sure if that will fill your needs.

system76.com maybe an option as they do ship to Canada as well as the US. http://system76.com/

Hi Not

Why don't you check with your local computer service center?

Most of my machines, other than the ones I picked up used for pennies on the dollar are all built-ups.

Almost everyday I see Great POWER machines, Dual cores latest AMD or Intel, 650 watt power supplies, nice cabinet, etc for under 300 bucks.
WITH THE PROCESSORS!!!!! Ethernet, Video Card, Audio, etc.
No Modem (who uses them anymore?) and extra gig of memory for 40 bucks more. And they will usually Install any nearly any Linux Distro for FREE, except Red Hat, or 90 bucks for XP or 120 bucks for XP-Pro, most I know won't install or even recommend Vista.

Of course, some shops are cow toers to Mickey$oft and won't even talk to you about a machine without Vista pre-installed. Good places to avoid, hi hi........

Ubuntu loaded laptops are getting fairly easy to find.

My personal favorite is the MSI Wind? (not sure...) but that is a netbook, so my not fulfill your needs.
