View Full Version : [ubuntu] Updating from 7.04 to 8.10

Hello everyone. Currently I am on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04) and wanting to update to 8.10. I have installed all updates that Update Manager has. But instead of it saying "New Distribution Release, 8.10" it says "New Distribution Release 7.10".

How can I update to 8.10 without burning a CD? I've tried downloading the alternative CD, and mounting it, but that did not work.

Thanks in advance.

If you do it without a cd you need to step upward through the releases. 8.04 will be next then you can do 8.10 as I understand it.

I guess that is what I will do. Thank you!

Actually you'd have to go from 7.04 to 7.10, from 7.10 to 8.04, and then from 8.04 to 8.10.

Even if all upgrades were successful you're talking about 3 upgrades - average time for each on a fast connection about 1 1/2 to 2 hours!

It is far faster, and probably less troublesome-just to root canal your system partition, and nuke your system preference files--and install 8.10 off a CD. YMMV IMHO of course.
