I did a clean install of intrepid over hardy.
I have no sound, I tested on my vista which is in the same computer and it
works.Can anyone help ?

I would start with the section titled:


Is the system recognizing your sound card?

I did a clean install of intrepid over hardy.

Can I ask what was your motivation to do this please? 8.10 still has bugs ( as you have experienced) and 12 months less support.

After certain manipulations done to my hardy I wasn't able to login again.I only had a black screen asking for username and password. I tried everything but nothing so I said why not just do a clean install with the newest ubuntu...

I did an update on my lappy and the sound went south. The update changed one of the volume control preferences. Try right clicking on the speaker, select preferences and play around with those settings. Mine wanted to be OSS vice ALSA, yours may very well be different though. Before anybody asks, I do the upgrade and updates just to play around. I'm running 8.04 on this machine. Have 8.10 on two others.
