OK .. first, I'm an experienced Windows guy but still learning the Linux ropes. I support Windows at the office ... have been doing it for .. well . a long time. Love Linux but still trying to find some directions to some issues.
The other day my daughter was over and wanted me to rip two CD's to her IPOD. OK .. I can do that .. I sit down on my Linux Hardy box , fire up Sound Juicer and rip the CD's. OK .. Now to get them on her IPOD. Now I use a SANSA MP3 for all my podcasts .. I hook it up .. my PC sees it , I get my podcasts from Rythmbox and just drop them on the SANSA and they are there.. But an IPOD ..
My daughter has asked me about Linux .. her PC needs a serious upgrade and she knows I'm pushing Linux to everybody so she asked me about it .. I tell her yes .. you can still use your Picasa, your Firefox and Thunderbird .. so .. ok .. she's feeling pretty good. I show her OpenOffice, open some of her documents she has on her USB drive from work .. .DOC and .XLS files .. they all work .. now she's really happy .. and then she says "what about my IPOD?" .. I hesitate and say .. "Sure!" .. cuz guys .. I've read here it works fine (but never seen the details)
So .. tell me .. does it? and the main thing .. like I said I "manually" handle my Sansa ... I use it for almost nothing but MP3 podcasts. I trash them when I'm done and drag and drop to add more ... but with an IPOD .. you're competing with iTunes right? Rip CD's or Podcasts all day long and at some point plug in your iPOD and it "synchs" ... there is the magic word I guess.
Now can somebody point me in the direction on how to get this seamless action on UBUNTU with an iPOD? Or maybe better said .. can I get it? Hey, if it's not possible thats OK .. I'm not dropping Linux but I don't need to spend time looking for a cure that does not exist.
I'm not married to Rythmbox ... I'm just sort of a "use the default until you know better or need to do somehting different" kind of guy. So if the solution is Amarok or ??? I'm cool with that.
Many thanx in advance
