Creative finally gave up trying to develop the X-Fi driver themselves and have open sourced it :D

But that's splendid news. I just hope that the new driver is a substantial improvement on the old one.

Is this old news or am I confusing it with something? OSS has supported the x-fi for several months now since Creative handed over the architecture to developers. ALSA should have a working driver in the near future.

EDIT: My bad, I should try reading more carefully

Now if they would just back step to the thousands and thousands that still have or run a 5.1 live system. Then I would really cheer!
But Creative abandoned them with XP SP2.

Maybe our esteemed code writers can look into this? Sure would be nice as two of my older machines are using the 5.1 units!
