I will admit I am very new to Ubuntu but decided to update to 8.10.
I like others have resolution problems but I can live with that.
My biggest problem is that now when I select any of the folders under the places category on the top bar, they all only open Open Office.
Example, I click on Places>Documents I get Open office instead of a folder.
I can't figure out how to change the icons back to the proper path.

I did try searching the forums for this and came up with nothing.
Any ideas?

go to places > computer

click on your user name in the left column, then on the right side...right click on any folder and choose "properties" from the drop-down menu. click the "open with" tab and put a check next to "open folder".

see if that fixes it.

Another way is to right click any folder, select "Open with other application", select "File Browser" and hit "Open".

That got it, I had to do it for each folder but problem solved.
Thanks.
