Installation stops because of xserver

I am trying to install Ubuntu 08.10 on an older computer, but it stops, when it is trying to start the xserver. I have a Nvidia 5200 card. What can I do?

I dunno, because with that card, the GeForce FX 5200, it should be OK.

Usually it stops responding, because of the video card being newer than the version of Ubuntu.

Not vice-versa.

Strange, but there comes a window that says, that the system will try to start the xserver again in 2 minutes. This message comes over and over again.
