im relatively new to the linux/unix platform and am having difficulty utilizing my wireless adapter.

im running an Acer Aspire 5315 which uses the atheros wireless device.

i used the synaptic package manager do download my drivers and all is well in that respect and the card is visible, drivers are enabled, and in use.
when i click on the upper right network icon it shows "connect to 802.1x Protected WIRED connection..." i dont see anything that hints of wireless other than when i right click that same icon it gives me an option to edit wireless networks. yet when selected the interface is rather useless to me.

when i go the the system admin network interface i dont see my wireless device at all, just my ethernet and phone modem ports.........im confused and really dont have the time to dig through the extensive amount of data available to make the repair in a timely manner.

if anyone can help me pls do.....

thanks in advance,
