I've noticed that after installing video drivers, in my case the proprietary nvidia driver, that it does take a little bit longer. I think that's to be expected. Not entirely sure though. But when you say "very slow", what are you using as a metric? In other words, what are you comparing it against?

I have the same problem. Im talking 3-4 minutes of black screen before the Login prompt, then like 2 minutes of Brown screen untill desktop... Any suggestions?

It was working fine before the update to 8.10. Started up in under 1.5 minutes before.

The situation is that I have been running 8.10 for while there was no problem to start ubuntu, but I think it is 2 or 3 days ago I run update manager ever since it takes about 3-4 minutes for ubuntu to start.
help is needed

I have the same problem. It looks like my machine has hung on the loading screen. Stays like that for about a minute before continuing.

I've just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10

My brother mentioned that he just upgraded his linux kernal on Suse and it failed to boot up. I wonder if theres a connection somewhere.

There is a similar thread here (http://tennessee.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?t=963800)

This reported bug is the issue I am experiencing (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/295103)
