After using the Update Manager to upgrade my laptop from 8.04 to 8.10, the computer fails on startup with the following message:
[1.048241] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
This appears to be Grub loading the new kernel directly after the required installation reboot.
Everything else seemed to go okay, though.
On loading the previous kernel via Grub, I get an error initializing HAL. Now, I am relegated to doing an initial install with the downloaded ISO.
Any other problems like this reported or known?
