I installed Ubuntu 8.1 64 bit. I am new to Linux. I tried installing the Adobe Reader, but when I clicked on download, Ubuntu suggested opening it up using the Archive Manager, but then I got a message telling me that the HELPER Application associated with AdobeReader_enu-8.1.3-1.i486.rpm cannot be found. If I save the file, and double click on it, I get a message about not being able to open archive files. Sorry about the newbie question.

RPM's are not for Ubuntu. Ubuntu uses deb. Download the tar.gz.

no need to download the tarball.

adobe provides the .deb for reader and flash. :) sure makes things simpler.....

(reader is still version 8+ for linux though)

edit: whoops. its the 64 bit version. nvm then. the .deb won't work.
