What seems to be a huge surprise and a good news is Creative Labs has made their drivers for X-Fi open source. Phoronix (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=creative_xfi_gift&num=1) has the low down. Very good news indeed but it's about 7 months late for me as I returned my X-Fi card (got one thinking it would work when I built my new computer) and instead bought a Turtle Beach Rivera (http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/riviera/home.aspx).

Wonderful news! Maybe now my X-fi notebook will finally work! :) But that will take some time though...

It'll probably end up being integrated into ALSA by the .29 or .30 release of the kernel.

Hey I would have just settled if creative just went with better drivers but this is good too ;D

this changes my opinion about creative immensely. I might consider buying one of their products now.

My Creative audio chipset worked from the beginning. Will I hear an increase in sound quality?

What creative audio device do you have currently?
