Hanging on Update

I have auto update on and yesterday it told me there were 72 (!) updates available. When I went to install it got as far as 5 of 72 and the displayed time to finish went into days and it got no further. I tried unchecking the 5th item on the list but same problem. Any suggestions?

What's the speed of your connection?
You might try a different Server

That did the trick, apparently the Canadian server was out enjoying the unseasonably warm weather we're having. Thanks
