View Full Version : [ubuntu] Broken Hardy, No boot, Really need help!

November 6th, 2008, 06:12 PM
I posted this in General, but that may not have been the right place.

I updated Hardy yesterday and now I can't boot up. I rebooted in the Recovery Mode.

The system hangs at ...

"Starting Network Connection manager Networkmanager"

If I hit return nothing;
If I touch the power button is moves along terminating processes and stuff and then hangs at ...

"halt: Unable to iterate IDE devices: No such file or directory"

it is totally stuck there.

I tried again and selected repair but nothing got fixed.

I can boot from cd just fine.

Can anyone please help. I hate to reinstall and loose all my settings, apps, and files.

Well. Im sorry, i cant help you there, but if you really need to reinstall, then you should save at least your home folder. most user settings are stored there in the hidden folders.

boot from live-cd, mount the disk with your home folder (usually system disk) om it, copy entire home directory to i.e. an usb-stick
