After getting a kernel update today

2.6.27-7-generic
Skype would not work. I've only had Skype a week. I saw a post in Abs. Beg. Forum where I had suggested the OP open alsamixer and see what it said. I thought this couldn't be the solution to my problem. But it was. So I changed the settings in the alsamixer and now Skype works again.
Is there a way to let all (or some or most) Skype users to check their alsamixer settings? Is there a way to alert Skype users through the forum search feature to look at a particular post that will inform them about the alsamixer and new kernel?
