I'm wondering if I install a bare bones version 8.04, install and run Envy (which I know to work w/ 8.04 and my SLI 7900GTX cards), once that's running then upgrade to 8.10... would that eliminate the problem I have w/ a clean install of 8.10?

My problem is the same one everyone else is having, just the terminal, no GUI, LiveCD doesn't even boot for 8.10. I've seen the work arounds, and I've tested some of them with varying degrees of success. I'm more curious from an academic standpoint if this would work. I'll try it tonight and let everyone know if it works, but if anyone else has done it, let me know! Thanks!

Well I tested it out last night and it worked! Here's what I did:
- Install Ubuntu 8.04
- Install EnvyNG
- Have EnvyNG Install the latest Nvidia Drivers & reboot
- Run all the applicable updates for 8.04
- Insert the 8.10 Alternate Install CD, run the upgrade having it download the latest updates from the internet.

And my video card settings took! Rebooted into 8.10 and everything was working like it was in 8.04! I realize this is only helpful for those wishing to do a clean install of 8.10, but in my case it was more academic and it worked.

Thanks!
