Hi,
I've been searching the Internet but couldn't find a solution to my problem. I'm trying to install Fluxbuntu from a DVD. The Base Installation process completes successfully until it reaches 74%. At that point, it says that it cannot find a suitable kernel to install. This is not the main problem as I was able to force it to find the kernel on my DVD. However, during the next step of the installation, "Installing Packages", it fails with a red screen saying that it cannot install packages from the specified APT repositiories. Does anyone know what's wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there, I would first of all recommend installing Fluxbuntu from a CD instead of a DVD, burning it at a slow speed, and checking the md5 sums to make sure there were no burn errors. It would also be helpful if you told us more about your system specs.

Finally, the Fluxbuntu installer has the reputation of being somewhat buggy. There is a "Fluxbuntu remix" that might be worth trying if all else fails (see my 2nd post): http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=954549

Hi,
Could you mention what the difference is between the "original" Fluxbuntu installer and the "remix"? Will it affect the installation issues that i have posted above?

Thanks again...

I have never used the Fluxbuntu remix. My understanding is that it's an "unofficial" attempt to fix the buggy Fluxbuntu installer (since the Fluxbuntu project has been inactive for over a year and bug fixes are unlikely). Once installed, there should be no difference between the remix and regular Fluxbuntu. Here is more reading material:

I do not know if it will fix your problem, as I have never experienced your problem and also never used the remix. :) Frankly it sounds like either 1) a bad burn, or 2) the installer is meant to be burned on a CD rather than a DVD.

Mind if I ask why you chose Fluxbuntu as opposed to a more up-to-date distro? Have you tried Xubuntu for example?

I just realized I tried to help you with this same issue a couple of weeks ago:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=954549

Unless something has changed in the last two weeks, your install is failing because your computer has a broken CD/DVD drive.

Hi again,
I'll download the remix once i get home. I've tried Xubuntu but it's still very sluggish on my computer. Thanks for all your help :)
