Installing wireless networks

I am a person with little linux knowledge and i have just installed UBUNTU 8.04 on my laptop [32 Bit]. It works fine but the internet connections do not work.I can't find options for wireless networks. Any help in this regard is appreciated.

On the top right of the screen their should be a icon for the network. This icon is for a program called NetworkManager and it handles the wireless network stuff.
