View Full Version : [kubuntu] knotify4 - why is it hogging my cycles?

After upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid (with KDE4), I found that my system was unbelievably sluggish. Simply clicking on a new tab could take several seconds to get a response. It felt as though I had gone back to that *other* operating system.

top revealed that the main hog was knotify4. I don't know what knotify4 is supposed to be doing, but when I killed it, my system began to run more quickly. There had been two instances, one started by root, one by my username. I only killed the one for my username, as that was the one taking all the cycles.

What is this process for, and why is it such a pig? I had let the computer run all night, thinking perhaps knotify4 might be doing some post-upgrade bookkeeping or something that was a once-off effort. No such luck. I regret that this upgrade didn't have a rollback feature. I'd go back to Hardy. The glitz of Intrepid and KDE4 aren't worth the loss of responsiveness.

Ditto here...same issue. Just adding my "vote" for a help/fix...
