I want a usb video input so I can do things like record off VHS to DVD, use my satellite with my pc monitor and record off that, plug my ps2 into my laptop and use the screen for that...etc. etc. you get the idea.

I keep finding posts in various places on the internet about devices which don't work with Linux and have no drivers. The posts in these forums always say the same thing roughly, "If you want to use Linux you need to do some research on what you buy to make sure it's compatible" (Usually in more patronising way). No one gives a place to look, this may be because it's very hard to find a place. Whatever I search for I get swamped with webcam devices and TV Tuners. Not what I'm after.

I am once again drawn to the fountain of knowledge that is this forum.

Anyone know of any devices which work and how you get them working?
