I have an ATI Radeon 9000 video card. There appears to be no special driver installed for it, and when I look at xorg.conf, it is empty except for general headings. So how does one set color depth at various resolutions?

Not only that but the resolution setting choices are extremely limited under the preferences>resolution.

When I run the ATI Catalyst it says "no ati driver installed" . . .?

Thanks,

krt

I have Ubuntu 8.10, Nvidia GFMX440. DKMS driver installation failed, so I don't have nvidia drivers. (It tries to install 96.43.05 instead of 96.43.07)
Also don't know how to set color depth. I need 16 bit to run heroes3 in windowed mode, and 32bit for watching videos. Any idea?
