View Full Version : [ubuntu] Problems with Audacious after mistakenly installing Smb4K

November 4th, 2008, 03:56 PM
Yesterday a friend told me I needed Samba for the Microsoft Windows Network stuff in Ubuntu to work. I did a quick search and installed the wrong software Smb4K (KDE), which installed a bunch of unrelated KDE software. I undid my mistakes, removed all traces of KDE from my computer, but after rebooting I found that the media player Audacious no longer worked.

I can open an mp3 with it, but it just won't start playing. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my computer. I use ALSA for everything and Audacious also is set to ALSA. I can open an mp3 in VLC just fine. Audacious just won't act.

Does anyone have a clue how all these things might be related?

Ok then..

Well I'm just going to have to ask it again then. Audacious' website is down, I don't really know where else to go but the Ubuntu forum.

I upgraded to 8.10 last night. I also completely removed and reinstalled the Audacious installation, hoping something would be reset. No such luck.

Without some kind of error message I don't even begin to know where to look for a solution.
