Help a n00b today! ;)
Have not been able to install [kubuntu] 8.10.x64. Starts installation, then the screen goes dark and of course, the CD stops spinning and I reboot. Checked and reburned the CD, even the alternate ISO via text installation. Nothing works, and I can't even see what I'm installing on screen (monitor is recognized with the LiveCD). Works fine with Fedora, but I'm a Kubuntu man now.
I figure it's my ATI 4850 Radeon card is causing the problem, which the ATI Catalyst 8.10 driver supports x.org 7.3 (http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html), not 7.4. How can I:
Install the Catalyst 8.10 driver before I install the OS? or
Revert to 7.3 during installation?
Thanks.
