[SOLVED] 8.10 ( Ibex) Nvidia drivers information

if your like me and have a nvidia video card and upgraded to 8.10 and wonder why your video card is not working correctly and cant get the video driver to install it is because the video driver is not compatable with 8.10

if you look at this support forum there is beta drivers that others have used and got it to work

and if you use the site search and search on 8.10 you will see that nvidia have known about this issue for some time and its not only affecting Ubuntu users but other Linux distros as well

There are some other problems as well with 8.10 and nvidias binaary drivers...

I tried to install 177.70 to see if it corrected some problems I got with 177.80(some how this version of the driver is still usable...)

The -generic kernel in 8.10 seems to be xen-enabled, and the nvidia-driver wont compile on one that is :(

What about cards not on this list? Do newer cards still work fine? For example I have a 8800GT will it be affected by this bug if I upgrade?

the fix must be supplied by Nvidia , it has nothing what so ever to do with Ubuntu in anyway shape or form.


in the first post i made trhere is a link to a web site for beta drivers, this is the fix at present.

as soon as nvidia release stable drivers i have no doubt the Ubuntu team will add it to the repos

this is exactly why people are pusing nvidia and ati for open source drivers so that this event wont happen, so nvidia if your reading this, how about supporting the people who buy your video cards by you supporting us with open source drivers
