I installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my PowerBook G4 this weekend. I managed to get everything working (Compiz Fusion icon/Emerald, Bluetooth mouse, sound, VLC, Thunderbird, Firestarter...). The only things I didn't get working were the built-in wireless card (lost cause, using USB adapter from Dinosaur) and the system sounds. I go into the sound preferences, and I check "Use system sounds" or whatever it says, I set some sounds, and I click "play" and it doesn't do anything. I checked ~/.gnome2/sound/events/*.soundlist, and both files are what I put in in the preferences. I reinstalled "ubuntu-sounds" (or w/e it is), but still nothing. I tried picking the sound files, but still nothing. All other sounds work just fine. It just seems like Ubuntu isn't quite Ubuntu without those sounds. :( Does anyone have the same problem? Has this issue been resolved?
EDIT: Also, the volume control doesn't work well. The left slider always wants to go to zero. Only a couple times can I get the left and right sliders the same. I also have a little red light inside my headphone jack that I never knew existed. It's an aluminum 17" PowerBook G4 1.67GHz with 1GB of RAM. The external speakers that I usually use are a couple "champagne glass" speakers by Harman/Kardon. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you very much in advance.
