Since I upgraded to 8.10, when I click on Places and then select Home Folder, I find myself running the totem movie player. I THINK that if I had a dvd in the drive, I would be watching a movie but since I do not, the program becomes non responsive.

If I click Places Computer and then slide over to File System, I can open all the directories and files that I had before the upgrade.

Has this happened to anybody else or am I a lighthouse keeper?

Thanks

This has been a pretty common problem. Go to Places-->Home Folder and right click on any folder and choose Open With Another Application, the click on File Browser and click OK. Problem solved.

It must be before coffee. I am sure that these are very simple instructions but I have missed the boat.

If I roll over places and right click, I get a sub menu with help at the top.

If I left click, I get a sub menu that has home folder at the top. If I roll down to home folder, Either click will send me to totem. Either click on desktop will send me to totem. Either click on shared documents sends me to totem. Either click on documents sends me to totem. Every click in pictures or video sends me to totem.

On the sub menu of places, on my screen, there is a line below video and the only "normal" action I get is below that line.

I think that I have completely messed this up. I believe that because it has been so easy up until now that I have gotten lazy and should have paid more attention during the upgrade.

In Ubuntu 9.04 (Gnome 2.26.2) when I right click on any folder and select properties there's no "Open with" tab. I think Gnome developers removed this, but I don't understand why...
Now you can't fix this problem and can't change your default file manager from Nautilus to anything else (e.g.: Dolphin, Thunar).
Any idea? Thank You!
