I just installed 8.10. Everything is working, however I have read that switching from ALSA to OSS gives a performance boost to World of Warcraft using Wine. I have tried switching to OSS in both the system sound, and winecfg. This results in no audio. Not just for wine, but the whole system. How do I get my system to work with OSS? I have an Intel HD onboard sound chip.

I resolved this problem with a simple :
apt-get install alsa-oss

this package allows wine to run in OSS mode while using ALSA

Maybe, but it will only be an 'oss emulation', not actually using any real oss4 code.

Perhaps this will help you:

If you're testing Karmic, would you mind trying out the a version of the wine1.2 package I've created that includes the native PulseAudio driver for Wine.

I'd like to gather feedback on how that performs.
