This is just a post to let Xubuntu fans and users (you know who you are!) that there is now a new third-party, non-affiliated, unofficial and entirely user-driven Xubuntu Forums (http://www.xubuntuforums.org/) site.

It is still early days and new users, contributors and prospective Mods are very welcome (this will probably change as we become more elitist and arrogant with time).:p

Right now it has:

66 Posts in 15 Topics by 11 Members
Most Online Ever: 44 (Today at 08:39:17 am)

So there's lots of room for everyone!

Let's give Xubuntu the respect it deserves!

I have a suggestion for you. I would trim the number of forums to a minimum, at most maybe five different ones to start with, ideally only one or two. As the need arises and the forums become popular you can then expand. As it is now the number of forums you have is proportionate to a forum with users numbering several tens of thousands.

Thanks for the suggestion, fildegar. We will tune the number of separate sub-forums as we proceed. The SMF software we are using does allow users to "collapse" each set under a main heading. To some extent, we are letting users decide what they want for the moment and will then have periodic "tidy-up" days.

The forum looks good to me. Nice idea having an Xubuntu place to go, after all there is a Kubuntu form for KDE users.

Due to the fact that -- very understandable -- UF is mostly focussed on Gnome I think the idea of having a separate Xubuntu forum is a good idea. Thus creating a place for XFCE related questions.

What's new in Xubuntu

Some of the highlights of the 10.10 release include:

* Xubuntu now uses Parole, the Xfce4 Media Player, to provide an improved audio/video experience.
* Xfburn has replaced Brasero for a more resource consious CD/DVD burning tool.
* Xfce4-taskmanager has replaced Gnome-Task-Manager, providing similar function with fewer resources required.
* Gnumeric has been updated to version 1.10.8, and Abiword is now version 2.8.6.
* A brand new theme from the Shimmer team has been introduced. Known as Bluebird, it is lighter in color than the themes in previous versions while retaining the full elementary icon set and the darker panels.
Like it so far
