system is a two nic firewall
eth0 = external and gets its IP from dhcp on roadrunner
eth1 = internal nic and gets its IP from the dchp sever running on the firewall box

issue
IP's are pulled find however it seems the routes are added so that the outside is not found
temporary workaround is to manually shutdown network-manager and dhcpd, bring donw eth0 and eth1 and then run dhclient3 from the console. What can be done for a permanant solution?

both are getting their IP (and the same IP) from the internal nice
* resolution /etc/network/interfaces only had "auto" but not "dhcp" from the version before 8.10

I don't know about 8.10. On Hardy I would try removing network-manager and assigning eth1 a static IP.

Possibly your eth1 comes up before your dhcpd is ready to spit out addresses, since it appears to be on the same box. And of course, check that there aren't any other dhcp servers on either of the networks, including any little Linksys boxes.
