I can't install UBUNTU 8.4 or 8.10 in Acer Aspire 5050 4697

I have been trying to install Ubuntu but it doesn't work, always appear a black screen when i select Install (after select the languaje - Spanish).

Someone told me to change the bios (3309) downloading (or upgrading), aftet this install Ubuntu. ¿someone did it?, ¿someone have experience about what happen if I do it (for example about performance)?

I just donwgrade the Acer Aspire's bios. It works well. Now I'm learning about UBUNTU 8.10

i have a packard bell laptop
tried to install ubuntu 8.10 (and later 7.x)
i get a black screen after installing and the ubuntu doesn't start
an other computer is installing ease but that ****** packard bell thing...
on the net i found that other have probs too with packard bell laptop but i can't find some advice to try to install on that packard bell
who can???
